Using a Custom Domain with Your Malloy Editing Portfolio
April 9, 2025
Want to make your Malloy portfolio live on your own domain? Here’s how to do it — step by step.
Step 1: Add Your Domain in Malloy
In your Malloy dashboard:
Go to Domains in the nav bar
Paste your domain name (e.g.
yourdomain.com
) — do not includehttp://
orhttps://
Click Save
⚠️ Make sure your domain is correctly formatted. It should look like
example.com
orportfolio.example.com
— no slashes or protocols.
Step 2: Set Up Your DNS Records
To connect your domain, you’ll need to configure your DNS settings with your domain provider (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains).
Use the following DNS record:
Name | Type | Value |
---|---|---|
@ | CNAME |
|
If you're using a subdomain like
www.example.com
, usewww
as the Name instead of@
.
Common Mistakes
❌ Entering
https://
in the domain field❌ Using the wrong record type (e.g. A instead of CNAME)
❌ Forgetting to save your DNS settings with your provider
Step 3: Wait for DNS Propagation
It may take up to 24 hours for DNS changes to take effect. You can click the refresh icon in your Malloy dashboard to re-check the status.
SSL Is Included
As soon as your DNS is set up correctly, Malloy will automatically issue an SSL certificate. You don’t need to configure anything extra.
