Top creators are already using AI, why aren’t you?

November 28, 2023

“I used AI to transcribe my podcast.”

“Within minutes, it helped me generate multiple viral clips from my existing long form content–saving me hours that would have been spent rewatching videos over and over again.”

Many content creators are now leveraging AI to radically streamline their workflows.

Let’s be clear, AI doesn’t do everything for you.

Good content creators will still need to conduct market research, craft narratives, and well, create good content. However, AI can be used for efficient transcription, generating content ideas, and repurposing segments into different formats.

You are not alone. Many creators are turning to AI for assistance:

  • @LinusEkenstam used ChatGPT to interpret floor plans and act as an interior designer

  • @SaiRahul created a children's colouring book from scratch using images generated by DALL-E

  • In fact, the cover image for this article was generated by Midjourney

AI won’t replace you. But, the people who effectively use AI will.

Here are 3 reasons why.

1. AI is revolutionising content creation

A few years ago, the short form video format became essential. As people started spending more time on their phones and screens got better, creators started capitalising on shorts. It was amazing to watch how quickly creators adapted to better connect with their audiences.

But, optimising your content strategy for shorts is not simple–especially if you’re starting from an existing library of long form videos. You need to identify interesting segments to clip, dynamically crop videos to a 9:16 aspect ratio, and add captions to capture attention within a limited timeframe.

All that, while continuing to produce good content.

Fortunately, AI is changing that.

Tools like Malloy are making it easier for you to start generating shorts by repurposing long form content. Just as short form videos changed the way we consume content, AI is changing the way we create content.

The early adopters of the short form video format gained substantial benefits. Till date, Facebook and Instagram are still trying to emulate what TikTok did with shorts. Similarly, those who embrace AI will be ahead of the curve.

It's better to master it now than to fall behind later.

2. AI makes videos easier to work with

Imagine trying to read an article. If you’re looking for something specific, you can search for it. If you need a simple summary, it probably exists on Google. And if you want to do it really quickly, you can speed read—much like Josh Alfred on AGT (skip to 1:28).

OK, so speed reading isn't for everybody.

The point is, it’s really easy to work with text.

Videos are different.

Videos are rich and engaging, but they’re not as easy to work with. Suppose you’re watching a 60 minute podcast. Even at 2x playback speed, the fastest you could consume this content is 30 minutes. That’s still a really long time.

That’s a big problem for creators with hundreds of hours of footage to work with. Some footage might be old, or produced by others. You won’t always be able to quickly find what you want.

The best creators have found a solution for this. Besides transcription, AI is actually pretty good at understanding and summarising content quickly. Many creators now rely on AI to generate auto chapters, or “Google search” for relevant clips quickly.

Smart creators don’t waste time rewatching content. They navigate their videos through summaries and search results, much like what we’re used to for text documents.

3. AI is a complement, not a replacement

It turns out, humans are better than AI at many things.

For one, we excel at creativity and storytelling. But that doesn’t mean we can’t use AI. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. AI may not be great at personal stories or original research, but it excels at tedious work like transcription or content repurposing.

More importantly, it’s not a competition.

The value of AI lies in aiding the creative process, allowing us to focus on idea generation and storytelling. Consider the case of a creator who uses AI to sift through hours of footage. AI can help to identify potential highlights, but it’s the creator’s flair for storytelling that transforms these clips into engaging shorts that resonate with viewers.

It’s like having a super efficient assistant who handles the grunt work, freeing you up to focus on the art of crafting narratives that captivate.

Moreover, embracing AI doesn’t mean abandoning the skills you’ve honed over the years. AI might be able to suggest a catchy title for your video, but it’s your understanding of your audience that will refine that title into something that truly clicks.

It's not about replacing human creativity; it's about augmenting it.

And this is just the beginning.

AI will continue to reshape the industry in ways we cannot even imagine. It has been a long time since something this exciting has changed the way we work. Social media was the last big thing, and it’s been forever.

If you missed the rise of social media, here’s your chance to be at the starting line with AI.
